The Queen's Croft Offer
Queen’s Croft High School is an inclusive secondary special school with Post-16 provision for pupils aged 11–19. All pupils who attend Queen’s Croft have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Our offer is built around knowing our pupils well, understanding their individual needs and aspirations, and providing a curriculum and wider provision that supports them to achieve their potential and prepare for adult life.
Who Queen’s Croft Is For
Queen’s Croft High School supports pupils whose primary area of need is cognition and learning and/or communication and interaction. Some pupils may also have additional needs, including sensory, physical, medical or social, emotional and mental health needs.
We support pupils who are able to learn in small group settings with appropriate adult support, and whose stage of learning aligns with our curriculum pathways and provision.
Admissions are agreed in partnership with Local Authorities and are considered on an individual basis to ensure that we can meet each pupil’s needs effectively. Full details about admissions criteria and processes can be found in our Admissions Policy.
Our GREAT Approach
Everything we do at Queen’s Croft is underpinned by our GREAT principles.
Goals
Our curriculum and provision are driven by pupils’ individual GOALS, aspirations and EHCP outcomes. These shape our curriculum design and wider school improvement priorities.
Readiness
We support pupils to be READY to learn, READY to read, and READY for their next steps, whether that is within school, Sixth Form, further education, training or employment.
Education
We provide an ambitious EDUCATION, carefully adapting the National Curriculum to meet pupils’ SEND and developmental stages of learning rather than chronological age. Our curriculum pathways ensure learning is meaningful, relevant and appropriately challenging.
Achievement
We value ACHIEVEMENT in all its forms. Alongside accredited outcomes, we celebrate the small but significant milestones that matter deeply to our pupils, such as improved attendance, independence, communication or social interaction.
Talent
Our offer extends beyond academic learning to recognise and develop pupils’ TALENTS and interests. Enrichment, assemblies and community activities support pupils to grow in confidence, character and citizenship.
Our Curriculum Pathways
Our curriculum is carefully structured to support progression across key stages and into adulthood.
-
Key Stages 3 and 4 are designed to ensure pupils are ready for their next stage of education, training or employment.
-
Post-16 provision builds on this further, with a strong focus on independence, employability and meaningful destinations.
We offer Explore, Extend and Excel pathways (with Post-16 pathways adapted to meet students’ needs), ensuring learning is matched to pupils’ stages of development.
Further curriculum detail can be found in the Curriculum section of our website.
Personal Development and Enrichment
Personal development sits at the heart of our offer. Pupils are supported to develop:
-
communication and social skills
-
confidence and self-esteem
-
independence and life skills
-
emotional regulation and wellbeing
Enrichment opportunities, including community engagement and activities such as Music in Motion, help pupils apply their learning beyond the classroom and connect with the wider community.
Inclusion, SEND and Pastoral Support
Our Inclusion Team works closely with pupils, families and external agencies to ensure the right support is in place. This includes:
-
SEND provision and review
-
safeguarding and wellbeing
-
family support and early help
-
communication support
-
transition planning
Further information can be found in the SEND & Inclusion and Safeguarding & Wellbeing sections of our website.
Preparation for Adulthood
Preparing pupils for adult life is a core part of our offer. We support pupils to develop the skills, confidence and understanding they need to move on successfully, whether that is into Sixth Form, further education, training, supported internships or employment.
Our Sixth Form provision continues this journey with a strong focus on employability, independence and community participation.
Working in Partnership
We value strong, respectful partnerships with parents and carers. By working together, we ensure that pupils are well supported, their progress is reviewed regularly and next steps are planned carefully.
