Queen'scroft High School

Music in Motion

Music in Motion is Queen’s Croft High School’s singing and signing choir, bringing together pupils from across the school to celebrate communication, confidence and community through music.

Our pupils use song, Makaton signing and performance to share joy, promote inclusion and connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. Music in Motion has quickly become one of the most loved and recognisable parts of our school identity, both within Queen’s Croft and across Lichfield.

Music in Motion

What We Believe

Music in Motion is founded on a simple but powerful belief:

Every pupil deserves a voice — spoken or signed — and every pupil deserves to be heard.

Through music, signing and shared performance, our pupils learn to communicate, express themselves and connect with others in meaningful ways.

Personal and Social Benefits

Music in Motion supports pupils to:

  • Build confidence

  • Strengthen communication skills

  • Promote inclusion and peer connection

  • Improve teamwork and collaboration

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Develop empathy

  • Connect generations and communities

Our choir gives pupils a sense of belonging, pride and achievement, shown every time they step forward to perform.

Educational and Cognitive Benefits

Pupils also develop a wide range of learning skills, including:

  • Memory and sequencing

  • Literacy and language development

  • Rhythm and coordination

  • Creativity and imagination

  • Focus, discipline and perseverance

These skills support classroom learning and wider personal development.

Community and Emotional Impact

Music in Motion has performed for a wide range of audiences, proudly representing our school and demonstrating the power of inclusive communication.

Our pupils regularly perform:

  • In Lichfield town centre

  • At the Co-op on Curborough Road

  • At Tesco Superstore, Lichfield

  • At retirement and care homes (including Darwin Court)

  • At local schools

  • For community events such as Purple Tuesday

  • For local businesses and charities

Their performances spread joy, raise awareness and strengthen links between Queen’s Croft and the wider community.

Kerri Reynolds, Head of Wellbeing & Activities at Darwin Court, has praised the emotional impact and inclusivity of our pupils’ performances.

Raising Awareness and Celebrating Diversity

Music in Motion helps raise awareness of:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • FASD

  • Down Syndrome

  • Makaton

  • Inclusive communication

It brings together GREAT and KERC values and showcases pupils’ individuality and strengths.

Pupils proudly share who they are with elderly residents, children in mainstream schools, members of the public and local organisations. This has brought many audiences (and staff!) to tears on multiple occasions.

Future Pathways and Opportunities

The skills developed through Music in Motion support a wide range of future possibilities, including:

  • Arts, music and performance pathways

  • Communication, care and support roles

  • Community work

  • Media and creative roles

Music in Motion helps pupils understand the power of communication and expression, skills that travel with them into adulthood.

In Short…

Singing and signing in the community is enriching because it gives every pupil a voice, spoken or signed and helps them connect, communicate, and contribute.

Music in Motion nurtures confidence, empathy, teamwork and joy. Values that define Queen’s Croft.
