Curriculum Overview
At Queen’s Croft High School, leaders have designed a GREAT curriculum that is ambitious, broad and balanced. Our curriculum is aligned with the National Curriculum and carefully adapted to meet pupils’ SEND and EHCP needs, ensuring learning is matched to pupils’ stages of development, not just their chronological age.
Our curriculum is designed to support pupils to make progress academically, socially and emotionally, while preparing them for adulthood.
What Do We Mean by a GREAT Curriculum?
Our curriculum is underpinned by five key principles:
Goals
Our curriculum is driven by pupils’ individual GOALS and aspirations, as outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). These goals shape curriculum planning, teaching approaches and wider school improvement priorities.
Readiness
We are committed to ensuring pupils are READY to learn, READY to read and READY for their next steps, whether that is progression within school, Post-16 provision, further education, training or employment.
Education
We offer an ambitious EDUCATION, adapting the National Curriculum to meet pupils’ SEND and stages of learning. Our education offer is structured through clearly defined pathways from ages 11–19, providing a broad and balanced academic and vocational curriculum.
Achievement
We value ACHIEVEMENT in all its forms. Alongside accredited outcomes, we recognise and celebrate the smaller but highly significant achievements that represent meaningful progress for our pupils. For some, these include attending school regularly, developing independence, engaging socially or sustaining focus for increasing periods of time.
Talent
Our curriculum extends beyond academic learning to recognise and develop pupils’ TALENTS and interests. Pupil voice and our local context inform our enrichment offer, assemblies and wider experiences. Through this, we support pupils to develop character, confidence and the skills needed to be respectful, responsible and active citizens in modern Britain.
Curriculum Pathways
Our curriculum is carefully structured to ensure progression:
-
Key Stage 3 prepares pupils for Key Stage 4
-
Key Stage 4 prepares pupils for Post-16 or other appropriate next steps
-
Post-16 provision focuses on independence, employability and preparation for adulthood
Learning is delivered through clearly defined curriculum pathways that align with pupils’ stages of development.
