16-19 Bursary fund

The 16–19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help eligible Sixth Form students with the costs of continuing their education. The fund is designed to support young people who need assistance with expenses such as travel, meals, clothing, equipment or specialist resources.

Queen’s Croft High School administers the bursary in line with the DfE’s national guidance.

Types of Bursary Available

1. Vulnerable Bursary
For students who meet the DfE’s criteria, including those who are:

  • in care

  • care leavers

  • receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name

  • receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or PIP and Universal Credit

Eligible students may receive up to the maximum annual amount set by the DfE.

2. Discretionary Bursary
This bursary is awarded based on financial need. It can help with:

  • travel to and from school

  • lunch or meal support

  • clothing or uniform items

  • study resources

  • specialist equipment

  • course-related costs

  • other essential expenses

Awards are considered on a case-by-case basis.

How to Apply

Application forms for the 16–19 Bursary Fund can be requested from the school office or downloaded from the policy page link at the bottom of this page.

Supporting evidence of household income may be required.

All applications are assessed by the school, and students will be notified of the outcome in writing.

Payments

Payments are normally made on a half-termly basis and may be:

  • paid directly to the student

  • used to purchase essential items on the student’s behalf

  • paid as reimbursements for agreed costs

Regular attendance and engagement are required for payments to continue.
